Informations générales
Caja de Resonancia (CDR) or “Soundbox” in English is an ethical platform for the exchange of content and musical experiences: songs, concerts, classes, conversations, meetings, workshops, talks and exclusive content. The network welcomes and encourages all types of music, artists, collectives and communities whose work is related to music somehow. Its aim is to disseminate new creative works, connecting music with the public via the internet in an ethical and sustainable manner.
CDR is an alternative to traditional streaming services: it is non-profit, recommends the use of open source digital channels, follows a code of ethical digital practices and advocates a direct and “horizontal” relationship between artists and fans. CDR proposes a unique, private and exclusive experience between creative content providers (artists) and end users (fans).
Caractéristiques principales
CDR does not distribute, store, edit, broadcast, or manage artists' materials or content, but rather functions as a kind of online
"job board" or store front that connects artists with the public through musical activities, while promoting good digital practices.
The CDR offers different kinds of activities, including:
1) Concerts-on-demand (short or long duration) for multiple end users
2) Private classes or group workshops on demand
3) Publication of exclusive material on demand
4) One-on-one musical experiences (between one artist and one end user) on demand
The various activities of each artist will be linked individually to their own profile within the CDR campaign on the Goteo.org website. Each activity requires a minimum number of participants or supports to be viable. These numbers are defined by the artist: the total price of the activity, the price per person, and the total number of people needed for the activity occur.
The activities will be available on a permanent basis and may be carried out more than once, thus promoting the long-term continuity of the work by the artists who participate in The CDR. Likewise, the activities can be edited, updated, or replaced by others at any time via the control panel of the personal profile for each artist.
HOW IT WORKS FOR THE PUBLIC
Why do we call CDR a Mutual Support Musical Network? Because every activity offered through our platform needs a community’s support in order to happen. Except for the one-on-one experiences, which only involve one artist and one end user, the rest of the activities will only be carried out thanks to the collective support of the public, and the coming together of a group of people.
How can you access CDR? End users will be able to access the Mutual Support Musical Network and request activities by the artists they’re interested in supporting. Each activity will require a minimum number of participants to make it possible.
How are the activities of the CDR paid for? Once the desired activity has been selected, users will enter the Goteo payment gateway to register as users and will then be able to donate to the chosen artist and activity.
When and where do CDR activities take place? Once the minimum number of people required have registered the CDR will contact the artist and the attending public to confirm the date, time and platform where the activity will take place.
ECONOMIC MODEL
With the intention of reversing the damage that decades of precariousness in the online realm has had on music and musicians, and with the aim of changing the prevailing economic model that governs the main social networks and streaming platforms, all the benefits generated by this network will go directly to the artists. The contributions may be categorized as donations for tax purposes, funds that SMAC! is raising on behalf of the artists participating in CDR.
Due to the nonprofit nature of the project, the CDR virtual space for collective financing has partnered with the Goteo Foundation in order to better combat the current cultural, social and economic emergency. This virtual platform for ethical financing allows CDR to be supported via individual donations, at the same time that it allows artists to monetize the exclusive digital services that it offers.
Normally, Goteo charges a 5% commission for the management of its campaigns. Through its collaboration with CDR (Powered by SMAC!), Goteo has offered to waive its usual fee. The CDR has been included in its #CoronaZero channel, which is a Goteo Foundation category designed to support those most in need during these desperate times, and on which it collects 0% commission.
For each contribution, there is a 0.8% service charge by the bank. More information is at: http://ca.goteo.org/faq/sponsor#q98

Pourquoi est-ce important
There isn’t much to say that hasn’t already been said regarding the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on our lives. This is a global crisis as well as the worst crisis to hit the cultural sector in decades: cancellations, indefinite postponements, businesses closing their doors, and above all, uncertainty and instability. In an attempt to make the best of a bad situation, hundreds of artists have decided to make the quarantine more bearable by offering live concerts through various social networks, streaming platforms, even playing for their neighbors from their windows and balconies.
Both of these facts have had a hand in giving visibility to a harsh reality: if we as a society are unable to go work or even leave the house, the internet is our relief, a collective form of escape during this period of isolation. This is not, however, a solution for the daily problems of the artists who are providing the content that is being consumed, such as buying food, paying the rent, and other basic expenses in order to continue to live. While working telematically has been implemented to a greater or lesser extent in multiple professions in order to combat the loss of income during the crisis, which for many has also created the opportunity to demand better long-term solutions (universal basic income, for example), the cultural sector has chosen to offer their work online in order to benefit the common good in this time of crisis. The artists are working for free, while the platforms that carry this content reap nearly all of the economic benefits generated by their work.
CDR proposes a practical solution to this highly unbalanced situation. It aims to make life better for the people on either side of the screen through music, forging bonds of solidarity between artists and fans both in good times and in times of crisis, like the one we are living today.

Who We Are
The Sindicat de Músics Activistes de Catalunya (SMAC!) is a trade union, created and run by musicians and for musicians. We are an organization that fights to defend and improve the professional interests of working musicians, whether those musicians are the creators or the interpreters of the music.
SMAC! began in the Spring of 2016 as a direct result of the first public protest at the gates of music festival Primavera Sound. The decision to formalize the struggle for musicians’ rights into a union was born of the desire to unite, for the first time, what has historically been a sadly disorganized sector. SMAC! has helped to organize and promote nationwide initiatives such as No Callarem (the organization for freedom of speech), or the recent Culture Strike, among others.
SMAC! is an autonomous and independent union. We do not depend on administrative bodies, nor the entities that make up the “business side” of the music industry. We are under no obligation to any third party, including political parties, pressure groups, or religious organizations.
SMAC! is a part of the National Union of Musicians, Performers and Composers, an umbrella organization including numerous trade unions representing the cultural sector in Spain. Although we maintain a fraternal relationship with other organizations throughout the Spanish state, the focus of SMAC!’s actions is on the musicians pertaining to the territory of Catalonia.
The operation of the union is based on clear premises:
- Democratic assembly.
- Transparency.
- Independence from any other organization.
- Negation of the professionalization of the trade union as an economic model.
- Revocability of managerial responsibilities at all levels of the union.
- Freedom of expression.
- Inseparable from these basic tenets is respect for the plurality of opinion and the right of all members to participate in all levels of the organization: internal debate, tasks and/or union actions.
The SMAC! plan of action aims to improve the real living conditions of working musicians by:
- Improving billing conditions so that they conform to working musicians’ practical reality.
- Participating in the negotiation of collective agreements within the cultural sector and ensure that they are properly implemented.
- Identifying and reporting bad hiring practices, including but not limited to phonographic, publishing, management, work-for-hire, image rights, and/or digital rights contracts
- Regulating the presence of corporate logos onstage.
- Demanding regulation of intellectual property law, promoting the profound reform of existing performing rights organizations as well as the creation of new entities based on the principles of transparency and democratic day-to-day operation.
- Combating sexism and actively promoting gender equality at all levels of the music industry and the cultural sector.
We need to unite and to unionize, because we are stronger together.
